Lindstrom tour dates, Little Boots tickets, Studio B status

Lindstrom

"The scruffy Norwegian Hans-Peter Lindstrøm might still be better known for his collaborations with Prins Thomas, but he has on his own produced perhaps the most audacious musical statement of 2008. Inspired by the multistage epics from electronic music's past, Where You Go I Go Too nevertheless can't be explained away as a genre experiment. The centerpiece is the titanic, half-hour title track, where heroic Moog swaths meet beachy Balearic techno. The shortest of the three tracks, "Grand Ideas", might have sprung from new age composer Jean Michel Jarre's laser harp in 1981, but it would also kill on a contemporary dance floor. Throughout, Where You Go displays patience as it celebrates electronic music's origins in a way far deeper than Lindstrøm's previous disco throwbacks ever could. --Mike Orme" [Pitchfork's 12th Best Record of 2008]
Despite the nonsense a few weeks ago, it looks like Studio B will be open for a while and that includes the February 6th Little Boots show which is now on sale.

Also on sale: The January 29th Lindstrom appearance at the same venue which is one of one only three dates the Norweigian producer is playing in the US this month. All dates below...

Down, Evil Army & Weedeater - 2009 Tour Dates

by Black Bubblegum

Anselmo, Keenan, Windstein, Bower & Brown are totally Down
Down

Tennessee thrashers Evil Army are reporting that they will open for Down, Hank III and Weedeater during tour in the middle of Feb through March, including a date in Sayreville, NJ on March 2nd. Ticket info for the Starland Ballroom show is currently unavailable.

UPDATE: Now the word is that Hank III is not on this tour anymore

Down is a crew of southern metal all-stars, including Phil Anselmo (Pantera, Superjoint Ritual, Arson Anthem, etc), Kirk Windstein (Crowbar, Kingdom of Sorrow), Rex Brown (Pantera), Pepper Keenan (Corrosion Of Conformity), and Jimmy Bower (eyehategod).

In semi-related news, Jimmy Bower is the only member of eyehategod not to participate in Outlaw Order, who released their superfantabulous Dragging Down The Enforcer in late Nov 2008. Vocalist Mike IX Williams recently told Decibel that Outlaw Order will tour in 2009, so we'll also watch out for that.

Down opened for Metallica at a few dates in 2008, but won't be in the house when Metallica play sold-out shows at Nassau Coliseum (Jan 29th) and Prudential Center in Newark (Jan 31st & Feb 1st). Openers for those shows are Machine Head and The Sword (who still have tix available for their show at Bowery on Jan 30th).

All Down/Weedeater/Evil tour dates below...

Lykke Li

Lykke Li's February 2nd Webster Hall show is probably almost sold out because another NYC date just got added. Tickets go on sale Wednesday at noon for a February 3rd show at Music Hall of Williamsburg.

Last time Lykke played MHOW was the day before CMJ which was one day before she last played Bowery Ballroom which was the same night as the BV CMJ showcase at MHOW. In all the confusion, a set of pictures from that Lykke Bowery show never got posted. So here they are, along with all dates, below...

Ron Asheton, RIP (the Stooges)

Ron Asheton (the Stooges) @ Baltimore Virgin Fest 2008 (more by Bao Nguyen)
Ron Asheton

Famed rock-and-roll guitarist and longtime Ann Arbor resident Ronald "Ron" Asheton was found dead in his home on the city's west side this morning, police said.

Asheton, 60, was an original member of The Stooges, a garage-rock band headlined by Iggy Pop and formed in Ann Arbor in 1967. His personal assistant contacted police late Monday night after being unable to reach Asheton for days, Detective Bill Stanford said.

Officers went to the home on Highlake Avenue at around midnight and discovered Asheton's body on a living-room couch. He appeared to have been dead for at least several days, Stanford said. [Ann Arbor News]

Listen to new Prince, he's releasing 3 new albums

Prince

Prince will release not one, but three albums in the new year. He's in final negotiations with "a major retailer" to distribute the music in physical form, and a highly interactive website will also provide an opportunity to buy. He's not working with a record label. "The gatekeepers have to change," he said several times throughout the evening.

He's found his way back to the sound of "When Doves Cry." The first disc, tentatively titled "MPLSOUND," is an electro-flavored solo effort recorded at Paisley Park Studios. Prince experimented with Pro Tools and "new ways of recording" on these trippy, experimental pop songs. One features a Q-Tip rap; another calls a "Funky Congregation" to worship and may become a live set piece.

He's ready to revive the Quiet Storm. "We got sick of waiting for Sade to make a new album," he said, introducing Valente's new album, "Elixir." The tracks are chill, with Valente's buttery voice melding with beats by Morris Hayes and Prince's guitar lines. Some are explicitly sexual. "This music is nasty, but it's not dirty," Prince said, explaining how sensual music fits in with his much-discussed faith -- he's a Jehovah's Witness. "There's no profanity. It isn't promoting promiscuity. She's singing about her lover, who could be her partner for life."
